We recently spent the afternoon with the students from King Richards school in Portsmouth and other local Solent businesses. It was a Speed Networking Event which meant chatting with small groups of students for 7 minutes at a time discussing certain job roles within NACWL and encouraging them to think about what jobs they would like to do when they finish school. The students certainly kept us on our toes with the varied and sometimes amusing questions they were asking!
The event was organised by EPB South and research studies suggest that young people particularly value information on jobs and careers if obtained through contacts with working people. From EBP Souths experience, students engage more with businesses and professionals, seeing them as a real link to work, which is why employer-led interactions have such successful outcomes.
We were delighted that we were part of this great event and we hope we inspired the next generation to think about what jobs and opportunities are out there, everybody has unique skills and interests and if we have inspired and motivated just one student then we are happy!
