Opportunity:
NACWL were employed by Galliford Try to supply and install the curtain walling system and pressed metal fabrications to 13 floors of the HSBC UK headquarters.
Proposal:
The main element of the works consisted of 2 floors of Schueco FW80XR with steel-lined mullions that required lifting into position with the use of the tower crane, whilst adhering to a bespoke and job-specific lift plan. The upper 8 Floors consisted of Schueco FW60XR curtain walling. The frames were assembled on the floor slabs internally and then positioned in place and fixed from mast climbers externally.
The 2 main entrances consisted of Schueco Jansen VISS60 SG. The entrances are set back from the face of the building so the steel curtain wall sections were lifted in with UNIC 295 mini cranes, again working to a bespoke job-specific lift plan. These screens also had large DGUs weighing 770kgs installed within them. They were lifted in working with specialist lifting plant and equipment – cranes, vacuum suckers and running rails.
The main atrium curtain wall screen consisted of Schueco FW60XR installed from mast climbers and fixed to secondary steel tubular trusses at all floor levels with bespoke curved steel brackets. This created an impressive look internally against the backdrop of the feature staircase.
