Client: Exeter College
Contractor: MACE Construction
The installation of COMAR Aluminium and Wright Style Steel Curtain Wall Screens including: Vents and Glass, COMAR Aluminium Doors, Roof Glaze Rectangle & Circular Roof Lights, Glass Dormer, various Pressed Metal, Canopy Roof Cladding and 3no large Protec Curved Windows. Installation was to be carried out from the use of the Static Scaffolding supplied and erected by QFS along with the use of Mobile Scaffold Towers and/or MEWP Access supplied by NACWL if Scaffolding wasn’t erected in specific areas.
Due to the site being in the middle of one of central Oxfords residential areas, the logistic issues were occasionally very difficult to manage, as the site was extremely tight. Additionally, having limited storage space allocated to each of the various Sub Contractors meant that NACWL made provisions to store certain materials off site in a compound, in Droxford. The materials were brought in when required on smaller vehicles making it far easier to manage. All glass supplied by Press Glass was delivered and taken directly to Droxford where it was uploaded and put into a sequence of installation, then called in when required, 2 or 3 stillage’s per time. This was beneficial and worked extremely well as NACWL used vehicles under the 3.5T CLOCS requirement.
As previously highlighted this was and still is an extremely tight site therefore NACWL have overcome many installation challenges due to the extreme size and weights of the steel reinforced Mullions, this is including the unloading and distribution, along with the assembling and erection of the Framework and Glass due to the various Scaffolding constraints. Heavily relying on the experience, knowledge and competency of our Supervisors and Operatives installing the works lead to being commended on several occasions by MACE Management on our positive approach, professionalism and shire quality of workmanship throughout installing.
